UX design and front-end for the Swiss tv

RSI is Swiss broadcasting company SRFs spin-off for the Italian-speaking population of Switzerland. Over the years RSIs website developed in an organic way. As a result the deployment of new features became cumbersome and time-consuming for the design- and front-end teams.

We were hired to define a consistent design language, which would allow for a flexible extension by the RSI design team. Furthermore we were asked to help their front-end team to implement the new design language in code and to optimize the development of new features.

A new workflow

In several workshops with the frontend-team in Lugano we developed a modern toolchain with the objective of automating recurring processes. To make it more efficient for all developers to find and edit code, new naming conventions where defined.

Pattern library for the win!

As an improvement on the communication between design-, ux-, front-end and backend-teams we developed a pattern library, which contains the complete inventory of existing design-elements. It enables the teams to reach better decisions regarding creation, deletion and updating of existing design-elements. Also it promotes a concrete and informed exchange of all parties involved in the development of new features.
