Red Bull

Red Bull organises events world-wide with thousands of attendees. They approached us to help them create a mobile portal that integrates directly with the on-site WiFi hardware at their event-locations. The goal was to give attendees access to free WiFi, give them live updates about the event and enable them to interact in various ways

Live voting is one of the interactions provided by the portal. Voting sessions are setup by CMS editors and give users the possibility to vote for their favourite event contestant.

To engage more attendees to participate in the voting process we leveraged Meteor's real-time capabilities and built a voting results display app that connects to the portal's voting data. During the voting session the app is displayed on big screens at the event location and shows results in real-time.

One key requirement was for the content of the portal to be easily adaptable to any kind of Red Bull event and that it could be updated during events, giving users real-time notifications on what is happening around them. To satisfy these requirements we used Meteor, which has proven ideal since it provides real-time updates out of the box. We built a CMS (Content Management System) underlaying the portal, that allows editors to edit content inline with a WYSIWYG editor, making it accessible and easy to use for users with any level of technical knowledge.
